Indian Pavilion – Expo 2025 Osaka (Concept Proposal)

This proposal for the Indian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka envisions a contemporary architectural expression rooted in India’s cultural identity and climatic responsiveness. The design is conceived as a transitional experiential space, where visitors move through a shaded public forecourt into a vibrant exhibition volume, symbolising India’s journey from tradition to modernity.

The pavilion form is defined by layered vertical fins and perforated facades, inspired by traditional Indian jaali screens. These elements act as environmental filters—controlling light, creating dynamic shadow patterns, and enhancing thermal comfort—while also generating a strong visual identity. The warm gradient tones reflect India’s diverse landscapes and cultural richness.

A large canopied plaza and shaded walkway accommodate crowds and public interaction, aligning with the Expo’s role as a global gathering space. The design encourages social engagement, cultural exchange, and fluid circulation, making the pavilion not just an exhibit, but an immersive spatial experience.
